A New Home for EU Weavers: Why I Created My European Online Tapestry School (and Partnered with Mirrix Looms Europe)

Starting a new tapestry school in the European Union has been such an exciting step for me. It’s about so much more than teaching techniques – it’s about building a creative home for weavers, sharing inspiration, and welcoming new people into this beautiful craft.

Of course, behind the scenes there are some practical things to figure out too – especially when it comes to tax rules in the EU. So in this post, I want to share why I created a separate EU tapestry school, how I’ve made things clearer and easier for my European students, and some lovely news about my new collaboration with Mirrix Looms Europe, a wonderful loom supplier based in Belgium.

Making Sense of EU VAT (Without the Headache)

The EU has a Value Added Tax system which works a little differently from many other parts of the world. The main thing to know is that VAT depends on where you live, not where I’m based.

So behind the scenes, I need to:

  • Apply the correct VAT rate for each EU country

  • Keep proper records for each place

  • Make sure everything is handled correctly and transparently

The good news? My teaching platform, Teachable, takes care of the technical side of this for me. That means less admin stress and more time for designing workshops, filming lessons, and dreaming up new creative projects for you.

Clear Pricing and Peace of Mind

One of the biggest reasons for having a separate EU school is clarity. When you see a price, that’s the price – VAT included. No surprises at checkout. No confusing extras.

It also means I can follow EU consumer protection rules properly, around things like refunds and data privacy. I want you to feel safe, respected, and looked after when you join one of my courses. Your trust really matters to me.

How This Shapes Pricing and Day-to-Day Running

VAT does affect how courses are priced and managed behind the scenes. VAT rates vary from country to country, which means the final price can differ slightly depending on where you live.

It also means more admin for me – But honestly? It’s worth it. Having a dedicated EU setup means everything runs more smoothly, and you get a clearer, calmer experience as a student.

Subtitles in Your Own Language

One of the things I’m most excited about is adding subtitles in your chosen European language. This makes the courses more welcoming and accessible, especially if English isn’t your first language.

You can pause, rewind, read along, and really take things in at your own pace. Learning tapestry should feel nourishing and enjoyable – not tiring or overwhelming. This is part of my commitment to making the school feel like a warm, inclusive space for everyone.

A Lovely New Collaboration with Mirrix EU

I’m genuinely thrilled to share that I’m now working with Mirrix Looms Europe, based in Belgium. Mirrix looms are beautiful to work with – sturdy, thoughtful in design, and perfect for both beginners and more experienced weavers.

Why This Partnership Feels So Right

  • Easier access for EU students – faster delivery and no international shipping headaches

  • Local support – real people who understand your needs as a weaver

  • Reliable, high-quality looms – tools you can trust and grow with

It feels wonderful to be able to recommend looms knowing you can get them easily, locally, and with great support.

How This Helps You as a Student

  • You can order looms directly from Mirrix EU, with special offers just for my students

  • Shipping is quicker and often cheaper within the EU

  • You’ll have access to knowledgeable advice on setting up and caring for your loom

Having the right tools makes such a difference to your confidence and enjoyment – and I love knowing you’re well supported from the very beginning.

Meet the Mirrix EU Team

Behind Mirrix EU is a small, creative, passionate team:

  • Katrien – founder and creative heart of Mirrix EU. She designs and teaches workshops and specialises in free weaving and cross-media work, often using recycled materials, photography, and fashion. She has an incredible eye for colour and isn’t afraid to think outside the box.

  • Charlotte – graphic designer and the one who helps refine and shape their social media content.

  • Mark – looks after the business, technical and financial side, and keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

It’s such a joy to collaborate with people who care so deeply about creativity and craft.

Looking Ahead

This EU tapestry school is just the beginning. I’m dreaming up:

  • Workshops inspired by European tapestry traditions

  • More collaborations with Mirrix EU, including all-in-one starter bundles

  • New creative surprises as the school grows 🌿

All of this is about making the school feel more relevant, supportive, and inspiring for you. I’m so excited about where this is heading – and I’m really glad you’re here with me on this journey.

You can contact Katrien and her team here

You can always ask me any questions too. I'm happy to answer.

My EU school can be found here. I cater for Beginners and help you advance onwards.

Happy Weaving

Love Liz
